Why we chose it

Five months after a rodeo horse crushed Brady Jandreau’s skull in April 2016, Chloé Zhao (“Hamnet”) was filming him and his family playing themselves. Through him, the film asks what a life can look like once the one thing you were truly good at is gone.

Synopsis

Brady wakes up on the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota with staples in his skull, because a horse threw him at a rodeo, his foot caught in the stirrup and the animal stepped on his head. Another fall, the doctors warn, could kill him. He breaks in other people’s horses, works shifts at a supermarket and visits a friend who came off much worse, while every weekend there’s a rodeo an hour down the road.
