Utøya: July 22

Erik Poppe20181h 33mDrama, Thriller

Why we chose it

Erik Poppe talked to more than forty survivors of the attack on Utøya, which lasted 72 minutes, and he films it in one unbroken take of exactly that length. The killer is seen only twice, from a distance, and that’s all the room he’s given.

Synopsis

On 22 July 2011, a Labour Party summer camp is under way on the small Norwegian island of Utøya when the shooting starts. Kaja loses track of her younger sister in the first few minutes and spends the next seventy-two looking for her, all in a single unbroken shot. And on an island, there’s nowhere to run.
