Through a dreamlike neo-noir narrative, Lou Ye expands the boundaries between realism and poetry, crafting one of the most important films of the so-called “Sixth Generation” of Chinese cinema. A work about the fluidity of identity and the persistent, transformative power of love.
Synopsis
An anonymous cameraman narrates a story of love and betrayal between a courier and an enigmatic woman who vanishes into the river's waters when she learns that he has betrayed her. Years later she reappears. Is she a ghost? A memory? Or the same woman, who came back from the depths?
