i already loved American Psycho, but watching the uncut version somehow made me appreciate it even more. once i learned that willem dafoe performed every interrogation scene three different ways: certain, suspicious, and completely oblivious, it completely changed how i watched the film. such a simple directing choice, yet it adds another layer to the paranoia and ambiguity. what i love most, though, is that beneath all the violence, it's really a film about identity, masculinity, and the emptiness of chasing perfection
