Until 2002, no politician in Spain had ever answered for sexual harassment, and Nevenka Fernández, a finance councillor in Ponferrada, was the first to accuse her own mayor. Icíar Bollaín tells it through her eyes, as the town that should have stood by her turns into a lynch mob.
In a town in northern Spain around the turn of the millennium, Nevenka Fernández, still in her twenties, becomes a councillor and catches the mayor’s eye. The harassment goes on for about a year. In September 2000 she resigns, and six months later she does the one thing the town will never forgive her for: she takes a powerful politician to court.
