Speed typing in the 1950s was a sport with its own champions and fans, and Déborah François trained so hard to play one that she nearly gave herself typist’s elbow. Styled like the carefree films of that decade, it brings back the dancing, the romance, the charm and full-colour CinemaScope.
In 1958, a twenty-one-year-old who lives with her grouchy father and is engaged to a mechanic’s son looks set for nothing more than a dull life as a housewife, but she has other ideas. She applies for a job as a secretary and types so astonishingly fast that her new boss decides to train her for speed-typing competitions. The title of the world’s fastest typist is suddenly within her grasp, and so, worse luck, is love.
