Why we chose it

Benedict Cumberbatch plays Alan Turing, the brilliant mathematician who helped break Germany’s Enigma, in a film that won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. He cracked the code that decided the war, and then his own country convicted him for being gay.

Synopsis

It’s 1939, and Alan Turing joins a team of British codebreakers at Bletchley Park whose job is to crack Enigma, the German cipher machine that changes its settings every day. Rather than read the intercepted messages, he wants to build a machine that will do it for him, and he refuses to work any other way. Joan Clarke, the only woman on the team, is the one person who can get on with him, and once Churchill puts him in charge, the pressure grows with every passing day.
