The Man Who Fell to Earth

Nicolas Roeg19762h 19mDrama, Sci-Fi

Why we chose it

Ziggy Stardust comes to Earth from another galaxy, or near enough, as David Bowie brings his cosmic stage persona to the role and lets it carry him. Looking back, it seems absurd that Nicolas Roeg (“Don’t Look Now”) turned down the music Bowie wrote for the film.

Synopsis

An alien arrives on Earth from a planet that is dying of thirst, with a single purpose: to get water back there. Calling himself Thomas Jerome Newton, he carries in his head patents for things nobody on Earth has thought of yet. Within a few years he is running one of the biggest companies in America, and quietly he is building a ship.
