Nanni Moretti directed it, played the lead and co-wrote the script, and the film he drove from start to finish won him the Palme d’Or at Cannes. A therapist loses his son, and the troubles his patients bring him start to matter less and less.

Synopsis

Giovanni is a therapist with no shortage of other people’s misery to deal with, while at home his wife, daughter and son are waiting and everything is more or less fine. That lasts until the day his son goes diving with friends and doesn’t come back. Giovanni sits down in his consulting room again and listens, but suddenly other people’s problems weigh nothing at all.
