The legendary German director Rainer Werner Fassbinder brought the Golden Bear home from Berlin for this film about addiction and fame that slips away, loosely inspired by the tragic story of the German star Sybille Schmitz. So what is it that Veronika really misses?
In Munich in 1955, Veronika Voss is a former film star whom nobody has cast in years. A sports reporter strikes up a conversation with her without the faintest idea who she is, and as their affair begins, he starts asking questions. Veronika spends her afternoons at a private clinic, where a doctor measures out her next dose of morphine.
