A three-piece band trails an older activist and saboteur across the Icelandic wilds, playing in shot, and though she sometimes signals to them, the audience gets no explanation. Benedikt Erlingsson keeps them in frame to the end, and Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir plays both the rebel and her twin sister.
Every so often, somewhere in the mountains of Iceland’s interior, someone brings down the power lines that feed an aluminium smelter. It’s Halla, a choir conductor, armed with a bow she made herself. One day a letter arrives from the adoption agency: her application has been approved and a child is waiting for her in Ukraine. But first she wants to bring down one more pylon.
