white being the colour of equality while the entire movie is basically about humiliation, power and revenge… yeah, kieslowski knew exactly what he was doing. i love how much stranger and funnier this feels after blue, yet underneath all the absurdity there’s something incredibly bitter about it. karol spends the entire film trying to regain everything he feels was taken from him—his dignity, his power, his place beside dominique—only to turn love into another transaction that needs to be made “equal”
