The photographer who lives above a young magazine editor vanished from the art world a decade ago, and what begins between them grows complicated and ever more intimate. Lucy’s pictures take their cue from Nan Goldin’s, and the film has become a classic of American independent cinema.
When water starts dripping through her New York ceiling, Syd goes upstairs to complain and finds her neighbour’s bathroom full of photographs nobody has ever seen. The neighbour is Lucy Berliner, a once-famous photographer who hasn’t published anything in years, and Syd, as luck would have it, works at a photography magazine and wants to run the pictures. Lucy says yes, but she has a condition.
