Paris really is the star here. Cédric Klapisch scatters his film across the whole city and leaves characters played by the cream of French acting to get on with their lives, while a dancer waiting for a heart transplant watches them. Through his eyes, the most ordinary day starts to mean something.
Pierre dances in a cabaret until his heart gives out. The doctors talk about a transplant but promise nothing, so his older sister Élise, a social worker with three children, moves into his flat to help. Life in the city carries on without him, and all sorts of people pass under his windows, from a history lecturer to a woman at the bakery and a man at a market stall. Pierre starts watching them very closely.
