Isabelle Huppert puts on a hijab, becomes unrecognisable and goes into business with a gang of hash dealers, not one of whom knows her face or what she really does for a living. It’s a comedy, and its star is clearly having more fun than anyone.
Patience Portefeux translates wiretapped Arabic conversations for the police, and she needs money: she’s a widow with two grown-up daughters, a mother in an expensive care home and rent she hasn’t paid. One morning, on a tape, she recognises the name of her mother’s carer’s son, who is mixed up in a drug shipment the authorities are tracking. Patience gets him out of trouble, but she keeps the goods for herself.
