Jean-Pierre Jeunet (“Amélie”) directs, so every gag runs with the precision of clockwork. The French comic Dany Boon plays it all completely straight while the world around him behaves like a fairy tale, and under all that careful engineering beats a soft, tender heart.
Bazil was still a boy when a landmine killed his father. Thirty years later a stray bullet hits him in the head outside a video rental shop, and the surgeons decide to leave it where it is. With no job and no home, he’s taken in by a band of scavengers who live inside a mountain of scrap. Then he works out who made the mine and who made the bullet, and finds the two companies facing each other across the same street.
