Baltasar Kormákur, the director Icelanders love most, sets a Chekhov play in today’s Iceland for this comedy-drama, in which Jón is getting married and everyone’s invited. The day before the wedding never ends, though, because at this time of year it never quite gets dark on the island.
Tomorrow, on a small island off the west coast of Iceland, Jón marries for the second time. His bride, Thóra, is a former student of his and half his age, and his first wife died only a year ago. The guests are already crossing the bay, and the groom still hasn’t turned up at the church.
