Unable to get into Gaza, director Sepideh Farsi spent a year video-calling Fatma Hassouna and recording the screen, capturing everyday life under the bombs. The 25-year-old reporter smiles through all of it. She was killed by an Israeli missile the day after the film was selected for Cannes.
In the spring of 2024, Fatma Hassouna, a photojournalist in Gaza, answers a video call from Paris. She has been photographing the children of a city under bombardment, and over the following year she shows the film’s director her pictures and names, one by one, the people close to her she has lost. All the while, air strikes can be heard in the background.
