Some things run in the family. We follow the five Duvals through five big days over twelve years, with Marc-André Grondin and Déborah François as siblings who both won Césars for newcomers in 2009. A dead dog, a first time, the parents’ divorce: the French film them differently from Hollywood.
It’s 1988, in a suburb just outside Paris. Twenty-year-old Albert, the eldest of the Duvals, has the family dog put down and leaves home on the same day, moving into a room above his grandfather’s flat. That leaves his parents with two children at home: little Fleur and teenage Raphaël, a dreamer who enters air guitar contests.
