Why we chose it

Television runs right through this comedy from David Frankel (“The Devil Wears Prada”) about a shy mobile phone salesman with a glorious voice who enters a TV talent show. He’s played by James Corden, who two years later became a talk show host and stayed in the chair for eight years.

Synopsis

In Port Talbot, south Wales, phone salesman Paul Potts spends his evenings singing opera and has spent the past year writing to a woman he met online. When Julz finally comes to visit, it’s she who pushes him to try singing for real, and she sends him to a masterclass in Venice where Luciano Pavarotti is due to hear him. Venice doesn’t turn out the way he hoped, but he still has one chance left.
