Why we chose it

Before Felix van Groeningen broke hearts with “The Eight Mountains”, he showed he could wring black comedy out of anything, here with a surreal story of growing up among a gang of hard-drinking, self-destructive uncles in Flanders.

Synopsis

Thirteen-year-old Gunther Strobbe lives in a small Belgian town with his father, his grandmother and his uncles, men whose gifts to him are beer, debt and an encyclopaedic knowledge of cycling. Step by step, without even noticing, he’s being shaped for the same kind of life. Can he escape what seems to be his fate?
