Anne Zohra Berrached tackles abortion not with a loud manifesto but with a careful look at one woman, a well-known comedian. She cast real doctors throughout the hospital and shot in close-up, almost like a documentary, and the film went on to compete at the Berlinale.
Astrid is a comedian who jokes about her pregnancy on stage. When a test in the sixth month shows the baby has Down’s syndrome, she and Markus decide they will cope. But a further test reveals a heart defect that will need surgery straight after birth. German law leaves the decision to the mother, and Markus believes it isn’t hers alone.
