Dawid Ogrodnik plays Daniel Rycharski, a gay Catholic, an activist, a village boy and a visual artist who has no intention of giving up any part of who he is. The film, which won the Golden Lions at Gdynia, asks whether society is ready to let him be all of those things at once.
Daniel is an artist who grew up in a Polish village where everyone knows everyone, yet almost nobody knows he’s gay, and he keeps his relationship with Olek, a local boy, hidden from the whole area. When a teenage girl from the village takes her own life after months of bullying, he wants to hold a Way of the Cross in her memory. The villagers stay away, but the Warsaw galleries turn up.
