When this cult classic was first shown, the audience laughed at the love scenes and David Lean wanted to burn the negatives, yet decades later it hasn’t aged a day. A married woman and a married man meet by chance in a station refreshment room, and from then on they come back every Thursday.
Laura is waiting for her train home in a station refreshment room one Thursday afternoon when a speck of soot gets into her eye, and the doctor at the next table takes it out for her. She has a husband and he has a wife. By the following Thursday, they’re both back at the station.
