Drawn by Roland Topor and directed by René Laloux, this one-of-a-kind animation won a special prize at Cannes. It was made at Trnka’s studio in Prague as tanks rolled into Czechoslovakia to crush the Prague Spring, and the result is sci-fi with an allegorical bite and a soundtrack like nothing else.
On the planet Ygam live the Draags, who are huge, blue and slow, alongside humans no bigger than their hands. Some humans are kept at home like pets, while the rest live wild in the parks and are hunted down every so often. The orphaned Terr is the plaything of Tiwa, a Draag girl who lets him sit in on her lessons, and little by little the boy learns everything the Draags know.
