Todd Field (“Tár”) picked up five Oscar nominations for his debut, in which Tom Wilkinson and Sissy Spacek play a married couple whose story you won’t see coming, however hard you try. Good manners can only hide so much, and the real fights go on below the surface. And not just among the lobsters.
Frank Fowler is home in Rockport, Maine, for the summer after college, in no hurry to leave again and seeing Natalie Strout, a thirty-year-old mother of two boys who is separating from her husband. His father Matt is the local doctor and his mother Ruth runs the high school choir, and while Ruth hopes the romance will be over by autumn, Matt waves it away. Then Natalie’s ex-husband starts pulling up outside her house, and this won’t end well.
