Jean-Pierre Bacri plays a famous writer and Agnès Jaoui his daughter’s singing teacher in a merciless film about people who only ever listen to themselves. The two wrote the screenplay together and won a prize for it at Cannes, and what’s funniest here is exactly what hurts most.
Twenty-year-old Lolita can’t get the attention of her father, Étienne Cassard, a famous writer and publisher whom everyone always wants something from. Her singing teacher Sylvia, whose husband writes novels that barely sell, treats Lolita as a tiresome duty until she finds out whose daughter she is. So when a boy asks Lolita out, she’s sure he has an ulterior motive.
