Natalia Dyer of “Stranger Things” plays a girl at a Catholic high school who has been brought up to believe that sex is a sin, until she discovers what the vibrate setting on a phone can do. Karen Maine’s autobiographical debut is a light, funny satire of religious rules.
It’s autumn 2000 in the Midwest, and at Alice’s Catholic high school the priest teaches that masturbation is a mortal sin. When a rumour goes round that she did something racy with a boy, she signs up for a four-day retreat to wipe the slate clean. There she meets handsome Chris, who is leading it.
