Léa Seydoux (“Blue Is the Warmest Colour”) plays a woman who falls in love just as her father, a man who has lived his whole life among books, can no longer read them. In Mia Hansen-Løve’s film, grief and happiness arrive in the same week, and there’s no planning for either.
Sandra is bringing up a young child on her own while looking after her ageing father, Georg. He lives surrounded by books he can no longer read, and now he’s losing his sight and his speech too. While she and Georg’s ex-wife search for a care home that will take him, and for somewhere his books can go, Sandra runs into Clément, an old friend of her late husband’s, in a park.
