Mark Duplass (“Creep”) and Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) improvised their dialogue from the writer’s bare outlines, in a film that opens as a comedy about a marriage in trouble and ends somewhere else. Go in knowing as little as you can, because it gets stranger than it first lets on.
Ethan and Sophie’s marriage hasn’t been working for a long time, so their therapist suggests a weekend away, just the two of them. They drive out of town, and at first everything is lovely. Then one of them brings up an evening that the other one doesn’t remember at all.
