Noah Baumbach grew up in a literary home, with a novelist father and a film critic mother, and turned those memories into an Oscar-nominated screenplay. Jeff Daniels and Laura Linney play parents splitting up, seen through the eyes of their two sons. The road to “Marriage Story” starts here.
In Brooklyn in 1986, Bernard Berkman’s novels have stopped selling just as his wife Joan is starting to be praised for her first pieces of writing. When they tell their sons they’re separating, twelve-year-old Frank and sixteen-year-old Walt are handed a schedule, so many days with their father and so many with their mother. The older boy is in no doubt about whose side he’s on.
