Folk and horror were mixing long before “Midsommar”, and Christopher Lee thought this was the best film he ever made. He rules a pagan community on a Scottish island, where a girl has vanished and a detective arrives just as the islanders are getting ready for May Day.
A girl has gone missing on Summerisle, off the Scottish coast, and Sergeant Neil Howie arrives to find her. The islanders politely assure him that no Rowan Morrison has ever lived there, even though her name is in the school register. The island gave up Christianity long ago in favour of Celtic rites rooted in nature worship, and preparations for a certain celebration are already under way.
