Scarlett Johansson, Javier Bardem and Rebecca Hall get caught up in sex, art, polyamory and unpredictable feelings, until the painter’s ex-wife walks into their Barcelona triangle. From that moment the film belongs to an electric Penélope Cruz, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for it.
Two Americans, Vicky and Cristina, are spending the summer in Barcelona with Vicky’s relatives when a painter, Juan Antonio, walks up to them one evening and, without beating about the bush, invites them both to Oviedo for the weekend. Cristina says yes on the spot, and Vicky goes along to keep an eye on her. But in Oviedo Cristina falls ill, leaving Vicky alone with the painter. Then his ex-wife shows up.
