Emin Alper’s full-blooded thriller, which screened in Un Certain Regard at Cannes, sends a young prosecutor to an Anatolian town where the lack of water is stoking conflict and corruption. Part crime story, part politics, it caused such a stir that Turkey demanded its public funding back.
Newly appointed prosecutor Emre lands in a small town in Turkish Anatolia, where the mayor wants to keep drilling for water despite the sinkholes opening up and a local journalist is turning it into a scandal. Then a case lands on Emre’s desk: a Roma girl accuses two men of rape. Both of them are close allies of the mayor.
