Why we chose it

They say the house always wins, but here Martin Scorsese breaks the bank, with Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci in a Las Vegas where the money is counted in a room with no windows. Sharon Stone dazzles in a role that won her a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination, and the huge costume budget shows.

Synopsis

In Las Vegas in 1973, the Chicago mob puts Sam Rothstein in charge of the Tangiers casino. Within a year he has doubled its profits, and a slice of the takings goes regularly to the bosses in the Midwest. Then his childhood friend Nicky Santoro arrives from Chicago and sets up his own business in Vegas, while Sam marries Ginger, a hustler with no intention of giving up the game.
