Dogtooth

Why we chose it

Three grown-up children who have never been beyond the garden fence are at the heart of the pitch-black, ironic puzzle that made Yórgos Lánthimos’s name. It took him all the way to the Oscars, became the flagship of the Greek Weird Wave, and remains the strangest thing Greek cinema has produced.

Synopsis

Two daughters and a son, all of them somewhere between twenty and thirty, live shut away with their parents and have no contact at all with the outside world. Their lessons come from cassette tapes, and they are told again and again never to leave the house. According to their father’s rules, a child is only ready to go out once a dogtooth falls out.
