In Charlotte Le Bon’s debut, which went to Cannes, first love plays out like a horror film as a fourteen-year-old boy falls under the spell of a sixteen-year-old girl who tells him ghost stories. The lakeside summer in Quebec is so vivid you can almost feel the grass under your feet.
Bastien comes from Paris with his parents to a lakeside house in Quebec that belongs to an old friend of his mother’s. Her daughter Chloé makes no secret of wishing she were spending the summer some other way, and she tells him about a boy who drowned in the lake and never came out. A week later, Bastien is already tagging along after her to parties.
