Pedro Almodóvar called it a revelation of Spanish cinema. Carlos Vermut splits his twisted story into three chapters, World, Devil and Flesh, named after the Christian enemies of the soul, and it all begins with a dying twelve-year-old who wants an expensive anime dress.
Luis has been out of work for a long time, and his twelve-year-old daughter Alicia is terminally ill. Her one dream is the official costume of the heroine of her favourite anime, which her father can’t possibly afford. He sells everything in the house and still falls well short, until in desperation he blackmails Bárbara, a married woman with a great deal to lose.
