Peter Falk and John Cassavetes are small-time gangsters and childhood friends wandering Philadelphia through a single night. During a chaotic production, Elaine May hid two reels of negative from the studio, two reels out of the more than four hundred kilometres of film she shot.
One night in Philadelphia, Nicky, a gangster convinced that his boss has put a contract out on him, locks himself in a seedy hotel room and calls his childhood friend. Mikey comes and drags him out into the night, to a bar, a late-night cinema and the grave of Nicky’s mother. All the while, a hitman is following them through the same streets.
