Alain Guiraudie made “Stranger by the Lake”, and this time the strangers are in the woods. What starts out as a classic tale of provincial France soon turns funnier and more absurd, full of desire, death and moral ambiguity. You’ll never go mushroom picking the same way again.
Years after leaving, Jérémie comes back to his home village for the funeral of the man he trained under. The widow gives him her son’s old room and asks him to stay a few more days, and he stays longer, wandering the woods, dropping in on an old friend and coming back for dinner. Vincent, the dead man’s son, wants him gone, while the local priest clearly prefers that Jérémie stay.
