The City of Lost Children

Marc Caro, Jean-Pierre Jeunet19951h 52mAdventure, Drama, Fantasy

Why we chose it

Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet (“Delicatessen”) spin a surreal, neo-baroque fairy tale about a scientist who steals children’s dreams, until a circus strongman and Miette from an orphan gang step in. Angelo Badalamenti (“Twin Peaks”) scored it, Jean Paul Gaultier dressed it, and it’s otherworldly.

Synopsis

Out at sea, on an oil rig, lives Krank, who kidnaps children to steal their dreams because he can’t have any of his own, and he is ageing before everyone’s eyes. One of the children he takes is Denrée, the adopted little brother of a fairground strongman called One, who sets off after him at once. On the way an orphan named Miette finds him, and from then on the cheeky girl and the strongman travel together.
