Why we chose it

This madcap satire begins in 2006, when the King of Bhutan announced that he would abdicate and that his people, who had never asked for democracy, would soon be voting, once they had learned how. Meanwhile an old lama sends a young monk to fetch him a rifle.

Synopsis

As the king of Bhutan gives up power in 2006, the country prepares for its first democratic election ever, and mock polls are held in the villages so that people can practise voting. In one valley, an American has come looking for an antique rifle, offering more money for it than anyone there has ever seen. At the same time, an old lama orders a young monk to bring him a gun.
