Why we chose it

Gavras shot music videos for M.I.A. and Jay Z before this, and he runs his story of a small-time Paris dealer at Guy Ritchie pace, with Isabelle Adjani and Vincent Cassel in the cast. Its hero wants out of crime and into selling ice cream, until his mother gambles away his life savings.

Synopsis

François is a small-time dealer on a Paris housing estate, and he wants out. His plan is to sell ice cream in North Africa, and he has almost saved enough for an exclusive Mister Freeze licence when, unluckily for him, his mother finds the money. To get it back, he takes on a job for an eccentric local gangster.
