Why we chose it
The tropes of rom-coms, coming-of-age movies and buddy comedies are passed through the lens of a sports story in one of the most entertaining comedies of the '00s, the era when Beckham was at his peak. A huge hit that became a benchmark, it introduced us to the then up-and-coming Keira Knightley.
Synopsis
Jess, the daughter of a strict Indian couple in London, is not allowed to play organised football, even though she is 18 years old. When she plays for fun one day, her impressive skills do not go unnoticed by Jules, who persuades Jess to play for her semi-professional team. She begins to use elaborate excuses to hide her matches from her family while dealing with her romantic feelings for her coach, Joe.
