Nick Cave never stops inventing as he plays a version of himself in his own life story, while the filmmakers cut in recordings of the musician talking to a psychoanalyst. Somehow all that make-believe ends up telling more truth than a conventional documentary.
Nick Cave goes through his twenty-thousandth day, one that seems to have been written in advance rather than simply filmed. There’s work at the desk, dinner with his family and a new album to record with the band, while on drives around Brighton, figures from his past keep turning up in the passenger seat.
