Why we chose it

Oscar Grant was twenty-two when a police officer shot him dead on a train platform in Oakland. Ryan Coogler was just out of film school when he made his first feature about him, and it came home from Sundance with both top prizes. Michael B. Jordan plays Oscar, years before “Sinners”.

Synopsis

On New Year’s Eve in Hayward, California, twenty-two-year-old Oscar Grant is fighting with Sophina over another woman, and the store won’t give him his job back. He still has some of the stuff he used to deal, so he decides to get rid of it. That evening, at his mother’s birthday, he’s asked not to drive into the city, and Oscar and his friends take the train instead.
