Why we chose it
Jessica Lange defends her father, charged with war crimes in Hungary, while Armin Mueller-Stahl is frighteningly ordinary as the accused in a courtroom drama that won Berlin’s Golden Bear. Joe Eszterhas (“Basic Instinct”) wrote it, and soon after it opened his own father came under similar scrutiny.
Synopsis
Ann Talbot is defending her own father in a Chicago courtroom. The US authorities want to strip Mike Laszlo of his citizenship and send him back to Hungary to answer for commanding a unit of the nationalist Arrow Cross during the war, though for forty years he has been nothing more than a quiet old man in the suburbs. So Ann flies to Budapest to find the people who say they saw him.
