Why we chose it

To this day, one of the best cinematic adaptations of Ancient Greek Tragedy. Michael Cacoyannis’ first attempt at this particularly tricky endeavor won accolades at the 1962 Cannes Film Festival where they had to institute the Best Cinematic Adaptation Award just in order to honor it.

Synopsis

Electra has been waiting for the opportunity to avenge the death of her father, Agamemnon, the king of Mycenae, who was slaughtered by his wife, Clytemnestra and her lover, Aegisthos. The opportunity presents itself when she reunites with her brother, Orestes. The two of them together will set their murderous plan in action.
