Why we chose it
Lucy, the dog Michelle Williams travels with, actually belongs to the director, Kelly Reichardt (“First Cow”). Wendy is on her way to a cannery job in Alaska when her car breaks down in Oregon, leaving her without a cent and nobody to stand up for her, so every setback becomes a quiet battle.
Synopsis
Almost out of money, Wendy is driving to Alaska with her dog Lucy, where she’s been promised work in a fish cannery at the end of the road. When her car gives up in a small town, life turns into sums: the cost of the repair, the cost of a night, and the price of a tin of dog food taken from a shop without paying.
