The 1990s case of Marc Dutroux, sex offender and murderer, still hangs over Belgium. Fabrice Du Welz’s film isn’t about him but about the helpless gendarmerie, police and courts, and this harrowing, meticulously accurate thriller has drawn comparisons with Fincher’s “Zodiac”.
In mid-1990s Belgium, two little girls have gone missing and the services searching for them barely speak to each other. Chartier has no intention of stopping.
